Kingston upon Thames is widely known for its retail offerings, but we aim to reconnect the community with its rich history. Our project uses visual storytelling to celebrate Kingston’s heritage, blending traditional embroidery with modern digital technology. This approach highlights local history while revitalizing Kingston’s narrative, bridging the past and present in a creative and engaging way.

We designed a way-finding system through physical posts that reside along the Thames in Kingston. These posts have design inspirations from Blackwork Embroidery. Using Augmented Reality AR technology, audiences can use their devices to scan the QR code located on the post and unlock associated stories, historical visuals, and dynamic content. This project artistically showcases key landmarks, historical events, and stories of resilience from this borough. More specifically, these way-finding post are designed with three references to Kingston’s history. One: The Arts and Crafts of the Borough, Two: The Hogsmill River, and Three: The Saxons of Kingston.
